What has Tikkun Toronto done to date?

WE have written "The Israel Stories" a series of personal narratives tracing the evolution of our different relationships to Israel. We are meeting groups of Jews and non-Jews, telling the stories, and hearing their stories as a way to open communication. Recordings of many of these stories will be appearing on this website in early 2008.

We appeared on CBC's program, "The Big Picture with Avi Lewis", presenting a pro-Israel, pro-Palestinian point of view

We sponsored Rabbi Michael Lerner's talk in Toronto in April 2006. Many thanks to Judy Rebick, Dale Whitmore and all the other sponsors and co-sponsors. If you missed the talk, or want to hear it again, or send to friends, it's now available online on the rabble podcast network series, Needs No Introduction. Download the talk or stream directly from their website.

We created a wall of transformation, representing the change from Darkness to Light, as part of the 2005 Kensington Market's Winter Solstice Festival. Watch the bricks magically transform as you pass your cursor over them, by clicking here

We staged an intervention at a Stephen Harper campaing stop, chanting “HARPER, HARPER HE’S OK… IRAQ WAR, RIGHT THIS WAY”. Read Terry Walker's marvellous desscription of what happened next by clicking here. Global TV's news coverage will be available here soon .

We have hosted “Building Bridges”, a two-day conference on Spiritual Politics and Reconciliation with Rabbi Michael Lerner, the founder of the Tikkun Community. The conference featured musical groups, vegetarian food, and workshops to connect across differences, and organize future actions. You can see a photoalbum here.

We organized a 10,000 Kites event in support of a larger initiave in Israel/Palestine. You can see a slideshow of our event and learn more about this ongoing action here.

We hold regular meetings of both political action and spirit groups, detailed on the "Upcoming" page. Out of these, have come a play Two Brothers near Jerusalem which we wrote and performed at the Ashkenaz festival and another play for “An Evening of Engagement”, a forum for dialogue between Arabs, Israelis, Jews, and Muslims. We participated in the Toronto Social Forum, offering a workshop “From Waste to Wisdom”.

As well, we have participated in demonstrations in opposition to the war in Iraq.
