How We Hold Spirit Group Meetings
Spirit Group Guidelines
* Meetings will start and end with a spiritual component, creating and opening a circle within which the meeting happens. These will come from a range of spiritual traditions. In the absence of other arrangement, the facilitator is responsible for choosing this.
* The goal is to feel safe, to explore vulnerabilities, to share the joy of exploration rather than to obtain definitive answers. To achieve that, people should talk from their own experience rather than attack ideas others may hold. Our goal is process, not product, and strong emotions are both expected and welcomed.
* There should be an equal opportunity to speak: each person should have an opportunity to speak before anyone speaks twice. Talking circles and go-rounds may be useful methods to achieve this. Interruptions are not desirable, people need to be mindful of their own airtime.
* There should be a facilitator for each spirit group meeting. The role of facilitator should rotate. The facilitator is empowered to remind the group of these guidelines, both at the start of the meeting, and as needed during the meeting. As well, the facilitator should consider options such as small groups if we have so many people that people don't have a chance to participate.
